The best Christmas gift ever
Christmas is first and foremost about faith. It’s about a baby born in a manger who brought life and joy. But that gift came at a tremendous cost. That baby was Jesus, who loved His creation, you and me, so much, He left His home in heaven to intersect with our world.
We His creation made rather a mess of things on earth. Jesus came, not as Creator God, not to bully us, but to bring light and hope and life. He came as a child. He came out of love.
He didn’t come to hurt or destroy, but to lift up and heal broken hearts and lives. But He couldn’t do that as a baby, though His arrival spawned Christmas and a special time of joy. Jesus became one of us, vulnerable human beings.
He didn’t live above us in riches and wealth. He came to a young girl who was not from a prominent family. He grew into a man who went through the trials we all go through in life.
In time, He took up the mantle He was meant to wear, stepping into the limelight to share God’s message of truth, of the need to know the difference between good and evil and turn away from doing wrong to doing right.
But we live in a world and culture where it seems easier to follow the crowd, to rationalize truth, to downplay holiness, righteousness, and goodness. We don’t like following God’s way of purity of mind, soul, and body.
In His day, Jesus confronted those who cheated, lied, hurt themselves and others, and who led people away rather than to Him. He confronted political and religious leaders, making them increasingly angry when He pointed out their hypocrisy.
He also showed His character by His love and care to those who came. He reached out to heal, make whole, and set free those who needed His touch. The leaders hatred grew to the point that they planned His execution. Jesus was tortured and died in a horrific way—on a cross.
What His murderers didn’t realize is that God had a plan. Jesus didn’t just come as a baby to found a fun holiday. He didn’t grow up to only help a few. Jesus allowed Himself to be sacrificed in our place. Our choices have consequences. We often make bad choices to do wrong instead of right.
Jesus came to offer forgiveness for our bad choices, the worst of which is turning our backs on Jesus and all He represents—all that is good and righteous all together. No lying, cheating or stealing, and more.
Jesus didn’t just die. He conquered death itself by His resurrection. He came to offer forgiveness, hope and life to all who accept His gift and follow Him.
While we are caught up in the wonder of the Christmas season with all its sparkle, traditions and fun, we need to take time to remember this season is the beginning of joy—a joy shadowed by a cross and the sacrifice of the One who created and loves us best—Jesus.
Christmas is a great time to come to know true peace and joy as you follow Him. That’s the best Christmas ever—Jesus.
Merry Christmas!
